CHAPTER TWO

The last train north

The station clock had stopped at seventeen minutes past three. Mara noticed it before she noticed the empty platform, the sleeping ticket office, the single light in the rain.

In her coat pocket, the letter crackled. She had read it so often that the words seemed to belong to her now.

Come to Bellwether. Bring the map.
Tell no one you remember.

Beyond the glass, the northbound train was waiting. For the first time in years, she knew where she was going.

Chapter 2Every story starts somewhere.
A fictional project, shown in a simplified view of Plotilla’s manuscript, codex, and timeline. Your words and your decisions stay yours.
For the world you’re imagining.

Fantasy · Science fiction · Romance · Mystery · And the story only you can tell.

03 / Understand & revise

See the loose threads.
You decide what stays.

A name that changes. An event out of order. A detail that no longer fits. Story Intelligence helps you look again, with evidence you can weigh.

Detect automatically.
Propose intelligently.
Let the writer decide canon.

Automatic story links help connect your project. AI continuity review runs when you start it on Mythic. Findings can be incomplete or mistaken; they stay suggestions. You write the manuscript and decide what belongs.

04 / Make it yours

Your process.
Your words. Always.

A workspace should support the way you write. Including the choice to work alone, bring someone in, or take your work elsewhere.

AI is optional.

The workspace works with no AI at all. On Mythic, start an AI action when you want one. Bring your own key with your provider's own limits and costs.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN

A few
clear answers.

What is Plotilla?

Plotilla is fiction writing software that connects a Book, Parts and Chapters manuscript with characters, worldbuilding, timelines, lineage and story intelligence in one project. It is a writing workspace for fiction across genres, not a chat assistant. See the connected novel-writing workflow ↗

How does it check story continuity?

Story intelligence relates supplied manuscript and world evidence to surface continuity findings, contradictions and canon proposals for you to inspect. It is an aid for review, not a guarantee that a story has no errors. Read about story continuity review ↗

Does Plotilla rewrite my manuscript automatically?

No. Findings and canon proposals remain suggestions with review or dismiss controls. Your manuscript and canon change only when you choose to edit or accept something.

Can I use Plotilla without AI?

Yes. AI is optional. The manuscript editor, worldbuilding, characters, relationships, timelines, lineage, maps, planning views, import and export all work without configuring any AI provider, and no AI runs unless you start one.

Can I use my own AI API key?

Yes. BYOK means bring your own key: you supply a credential for OpenAI or Anthropic, the two providers your browser can reach directly today. The key is held in your browser session storage and the request goes from your browser straight to that provider, so Plotilla does not store it on our servers. Usage, limits and cost are governed by your own provider account.

Can I export my writing?

Yes. Plotilla supports Markdown and DOCX manuscript exports and project-data JSON export. The owner-only complete recovery archive includes project data, manuscript revisions and registered private project assets. Smart import helps bring existing work into the workspace.

Can I invite co-authors or beta readers?

Yes, on the Mythic plan. Collaboration invites use capability-based permissions, so you choose what a collaborator can reach, and read-only access stays clearly marked.

What does Plotilla cost?

Draft is free forever: one real project, up to 25,000 manuscript words and 20 combined world entries, with export always available. Reaching a Draft limit does not delete or truncate your writing. Scribe is $4.99 per month and Mythic is $9.99 per month, billed monthly. There is no annual plan. Both paid plans are planned with a 14-day free trial, but checkout is not open yet, so only the free account can be started today. Compare plans ↗

Is Plotilla only for fantasy writers?

No. It is built for fiction writing broadly. Fantasy-friendly fields such as lore, magic systems, races and factions are part of the worldbuilding toolkit, not a limit on the kinds of stories you can organize. See the worldbuilding workspace ↗
